Micro Grants

The Brooklyn Community Foundation supports the borough’s nonprofit community—large and small. To that end, the Foundation accepts requests for $500 or less through our Micro Grant program, an initiative designed to help support smaller scale projects or organizations throughout Brooklyn.

These grants serve two purposes: to support grassroots, community efforts like beautification campaigns, Parent-Teacher Associations, youth sports teams, or community gardens; Micro Grants can also be seed funding for start-up nonprofit groups, using our funds to help support immediate needs as it builds a rapport within the community members and among other funders.

Who is Eligible for a Micro Grant?

  • Micro Grants are only awarded to organizations with annual budgets of $50,000 or less or to groups with no fulltime employees.
  • If your organization cannot satisfy either requirement, it should apply for a larger grant through Brooklyn Community Foundation’s general grant programs.
  • Organizations that have already received a grant of any size from Brooklyn Community Foundation in the current calendar year are not eligible for a Micro Grant.

How can I Apply? When?

  • Organizations interested in a Micro Grant must complete only a Letter of Inquiry to receive consideration.  Unlike other Letters of Inquiry, Micro Grant applications may be submitted at any time.
  • Please follow the steps outlined on our Letter of Inquiry submission pages, noting that you may shorten the requested narrative sections.
  • Micro grants are reviewed by a designated member of the program team; applicants are typically notified about a final decision within four weeks of submission.
