Who has the right to tell their story? That question lies at the heart of the mission of the New York Writers Coalition. The answer, they think, is “everyone.”

Account Registration
Step 1 - Create or Claim An Organization
To submit a Letter of Inquiry to Brooklyn Community Foundation you must first claim or create an account for your organization. This account will be your group's access point to Brooklyn Community Foundation's online community—how you submit grant requests, documents and other information to the Foundation and how we communicate with you. We provide a variety of tools for you to use (and have more planned!) to keep your group's information up-to-date, so that you receive timely information about grant requests and Foundation events and activities. Please be sure to complete all the registration information requested.
The email address you provide in this step will be the address to which the Foundation sends grant-request related communications, so please keep that in mind when choosing your registration email. After you submit a Letter of Inquiry you can add contacts to your organization's account and we urge you to do that; these may be program staff or others you work with who are important to your relationship with the Foundation. In particular, we ask you to add the chief executive of your organization as a contact (if that is not the person registering the account).
Finally: if your organization has applied to Brooklyn Community Foundation in the past or to the former Independence Community Foundation, it may already be in our database. Use the box below and type the name or any part of the name of your organization to search for it even if you are not sure that your group has previously applied. Note too that your group's name may be inexact in our database, so please try several combinations (as in the example below).
Example search: if you are applying for Public School 1234 try typing 'Public School' or 'P.S.' or 'PS' or '1234'.
If your group appears in the drop down, select it and click the NEXT button. On the following screen you will be able to add to and/or correct your group's information.
If you do not find your group, please click the "I could not find my organization" link.
You may make a request for a grant of $500 or less any time. Please first review our Micro Grant page and then click here to submit a request.
100% of your donation directly supports the best ideas and programs serving Brooklyn.
