In 1998 Carey began volunteering as a tutor helping adults learn to read and write English. For five rewarding years, she dedicated herself to ensuring her students got the best of her. She taught students from all over the world, including helping two to become U.S. Citizens. Which, in turn, allowed them to bring their families to this country.
This experience was incredibly rewarding for everyone involved, Carey and the people she taught. The students learned to read and write English, allowing them to decipher this foreign country and participate more fully. And Carey developed lifelong friendships that she cherished.
In memory of Carey’s work, we are raising money for the Arab-American Family Support Center’s Adult Education and Literacy program to assist English language learners. With our financial support, we can help give adult students the opportunities they need.
