The Brooklyn Community Foundation seeks to energize and organize people who love Brooklyn, help them to get to know the issues, meet the leaders, volunteer their skills, shape and advocate for solutions to problems as well as donate money to support effective, creative nonprofits in the borough. We also enable anyone interested in improving Brooklyn to support local nonprofits big and small.

The Foundation uses an open, competitive process to award grants to support organizations in the five Fields of Interest. Select organizations use data to justify the need, clearly articulate their missions and demonstrate a capacity to manage the program or project carefully and creatively.  As a donor, you may invest in a specific Field of Interest or where Brooklyn Community Foundation thinks the need is greatest.

We believe that a strong community foundation also serves as a catalyst for greater civic engagement and a convener of smart, good people working to solve pressing local issues. The Brooklyn Community Foundation has a Board of Directors which represents a diversity of interests, professional experiences and backgrounds and, as stewards of your money, will ensure accountability and efficiency.  Our experienced staff knows the borough, its people and its issues well.

The Brooklyn Community Foundation will use its own resources – and the donations of others – to ensure that your gift does the most good. The distinct advantage of a community foundation is that all donations are pooled together to make a greater impact.
