Founded in 1942, the Catherine McAuley High School in East Flatbush was once a convent whose rooms, over time, were left empty. Today, as a model in-city boarding program, the rooms are full again with young women gaining an "education for life."

What is a Community Foundation?
Community foundations are tax-exempt charitable organizations created by the people of a particular community to benefit the people of that particular community. In this case, Brooklyn.
As public charities, community foundations can raise money from individuals, other foundations and governmental agencies. Community foundations make it easy and effective for generous people to support causes they care about in that community. Strong community foundations are led and staffed by people who know their communities, its needs and its leaders, and can collaborate with all to solve the local challenges.
The Brooklyn Community Foundation provides a range of opportunities for all donors -- both large and small -- to deepen their knowledge of Brooklyn and its needs. We are a community catalyst that raises awareness of the vital work of local nonprofits, using our endowment to raise more money for them, and finding common ground to build lasting partnerships to effectively address Brooklyn’s problems -- all with no administrative costs to donors.
Simply put: We help you Do Good Right Here.
100% of your donation directly supports the best ideas and programs serving Brooklyn.
