What is a Community Foundation?

Community foundations are tax-exempt charitable organizations created by the people of a particular community to benefit the people of that particular community -- in this case, Brooklyn.

As public charities, community foundations can raise money from individuals, other foundations and the government; they also make it easy for generous people to support causes they care about. Strong community foundations are led and staffed by people who know their communities, its needs and its leaders, and who can collaborate to solve the local challenges.

The Brooklyn Community Foundation provides a range of opportunities for all donors -- both large and small -- to deepen their knowledge of Brooklyn and its needs. We are a community catalyst that raises awareness of the vital work of local nonprofits, using our endowment to raise more money for them, and finding common ground to build lasting partnerships to effectively address Brooklyn’s issues -- all with no administrative costs to donors.

The Brooklyn Community Foundation helps those who love Brooklyn Do Good Right Here.
