At the Brooklyn Community Foundation, we believe Brooklyn's strength is in its people. So we asked a few of our neighbors to share what they're thankful for in their communities and what they hope for in the coming year. This holiday season, we hope you will continue to partner with us so that we can help strengthen Brooklyn's communities together in the coming year.
Rev. Emma Jordan Simpson
Board of Directors, Brooklyn Community Foundation
Pastor, Concord Baptist Church of Christ
I joined the BCF Board in 2009, the year we launched as the first ever community foundation for Brooklyn. I knew it was an unparalleled opportunity to be a part of an exciting new effort to elevate local giving and local initiatives that help all of our communities thrive.
Brooklyn is a special place and I am thankful to live here and raise my children here. As a pastor at the Concord Baptist Church of Christ in Bedford Stuyvesant, I see each day the power of community and all the good we can accomplish when we come together in shared spirit. Brooklyn faces many challenges, but we also have great wealth—in diversity, in creativity, and in the desire to help our neighbors succeed as we want to succeed.
I want to encourage everyone to take a moment and honor why we celebrate this season, to think about what we can do for our fellow neighbors and our communities in the coming year. Just by doing a bit more, and truly giving of ourselves, we can make a difference for so many and get so much in return.
