A note from John and Eric:
"Thank you for celebrating our wedding with us!
In the Jewish tradition of tikkun olam, or “repairing the world,” we invite our guests to mark the joyous occasion of our marriage by contributing with us to build a better future for our community.
Donations to our tikkun olam fund will be used to help repair:
- Our fraying climate: we will support the grassroots organization 350.org as it fights for the public policy changes needed to protect our earth and its inhabitants from man-made global warming.
- Our global society: we will contribute to the International Rescue Committee to support refugees displaced by conflicts in the Middle East and Africa—to help them build safe and prosperous new lives, as our families were once able to do in America.
- The local community: we will contribute to Read718, which provides personalized literacy tutoring and mentoring to low-income students in our Brooklyn neighborhood, in order to help other kids benefit from some of the advantages that have helped us build a happy home.
If you would like to direct your contribution to one of these causes specifically, please make a note in the “comments” section of the online donation page, and we will guarantee your contribution goes to the right place. Otherwise, contributions will be used to support all three goals.
And in the much more modern tradition of tikkun your tax liability, charitable donations made through this page are fully tax-deductible to you, the generous donor!"
