Tell Albany: It's Time to Raise the Age NY!
If you haven’t yet, now is the time to call on New York State’s elected leadership to Raise the Age of criminal prosecution! New York and North Carolina are the only two states in the entire country that treat 16- and 17-year-olds as adults in the criminal justice system, essentially sending children to adult jails and prisons.
Last week, along with 19 other New York State foundations, we sent a letter to elected leaders urging them to change the current policy.
Now it's your turn: Go to RaisetheAgeNY.com for helpful instructions on how to contact your elected officials and urge them to act in the best interests of our young people and our communities.
On our Blog: Grantee Spotlight
Did you know Black immigrants make up only 7% of the immigrant population in the U.S., but are 20% of immigrants facing deportation on criminal grounds?
Our grantee the Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI), based in the heart of Crown Heights, works at the intersection of issues affecting Black and immigrant communities to advocate for equality and justice.
Learn more about BAJI and other Foundation partners in a new feature on our blog, where we “spotlight” the vital work of our Community Fund grantees. In the initial installments, we profile recent Immigrant Rights Fund grant recipients Arab American Association of New York, New York Immigration Coalition, and BAJI.
