Special Initiatives

In addition to our Core Programs, the Foundation takes on special initiatives to respond to unique challenges and opportunities across Brooklyn.

Immigrant Rights Fund

Immigrant Rights Fund was created by Foundation donors following the 2016 Presidential election to support both the immediate and long-term needs of immigrants in our borough and across New York City.

Girls of Color Fund

The Girls of Color Fund supports the Foundation new Reproductive Justice Activists program, which seeks to center the voice and leadership of 12 young women, non-binary youth, and allies in an effort to imagine and create a society free from all forms of reproductive oppression. In doing so, RJA will work closely with the Foundation in identifying ways for the Foundation to build a strategy around reproductive justice advocacy.

Fair and Just Fellowship

In May 2018, we announced the appointment of Heather McGhee, the outgoing president of the public policy organization Demos, as the inaugural recipient of the Brooklyn Community Foundation Fair and Just Fellowship. During her year in the role, McGhee will inform our strategic grantmaking and leadership initiatives aimed at advancing racial justice and social change across Brooklyn.

Racial Equity Fund

The Racial Equity Fund is an ambitious $1 million campaign to advance racial justice in Brooklyn.
