The Brooklyn Recovery Fund is a joint effort between the Brooklyn Community Foundation, the Office of the Brooklyn Borough President, and the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce to create a pooled fund to provide support to Brooklyn’s nonprofit organizations working with the communities and individuals most affected by Superstorm Sandy.
The outpouring of concern from our communities in the wake of this monstrous storm confirmed the need for us to establish a locally focused fund to provide Brooklynites with a way to ensure that their charitable giving benefits neighborhood-based organizations on the frontlines of recovery efforts in coastal Brooklyn.
The Brooklyn Recovery Fund has raised more than $3.5 million thus far, with support from a broad spectrum of donors—including founding contributions from Barclays Center, the Brooklyn Nets, and Forest City Ratner—as well as hundreds of individual contributions via online and mobile giving.
Grants from the Brooklyn Recovery Fund [3] are responding to large-scale community-wide coordination work as well as more narrowly focused rebuilding and service provision efforts. This two-pronged approach allows the Fund to address immediate emergency needs while laying the groundwork for broad based, long-term community rebuilding, with a focus on the Brooklyn neighborhoods demonstrating the most significant needs: Coney Island, Red Hook, Sheepshead Bay, Gerritsen Beach, and Canarsie.

We thank you for your generosity, but the Brooklyn Recovery Fund cannot accept donations of supplies, food, and clothing. Please direct collections to specific organizations.
