Advisory Councils

In 2021, Brooklyn Community Foundation adopted a participatory grantmaking approach across all of our unrestricted grantmaking programs. As a complement to our annual Listening Tour and Brooklyn Insights process, through which we engage community members to inform our overall funding strategies, we have created Community Advisory Councils for each of our strategic grantmaking initiatives. Guided by our belief that those who are closest to the challenges are closest to the solutions, we center residents with lived experience and expertise as key decisionmakers in reviewing grant proposals, conducting site visits, and selecting nonprofits for funding.

Apply to Be a Grant Advisor

We are currently recruiting for all of our grantmaking councils, especially our Brooklyn Elders Fund! Individuals not currently in senior leadership positions at nonprofit organizations, and who are committed to equity for all people are encouraged to apply. Applicants should be able to read and review grant applications written in English and accompany our Programs staff on visits to organizations. This is a paid opportunity. Deadline: January 27, 2023
