It's Time to Invest in Racial Justice

If you want to invest in racial justice, in community-led organizations, in the leadership of Black, Indigenous, and people of color, we encourage you to give with us at Brooklyn Community Foundation.

At Brooklyn Community Foundation, we are deeply committed to achieving our vision for a fair and just Brooklyn. And in this moment, we are seeing momentum build for that vision in new and powerful ways.

While we hold on to the anguish and pain that has led to this moment—seeded by 400 years of institutionalized oppression and perpetual violence enacted on Black people, magnified by a global pandemic ravaging communities of color—we believe, perhaps more than ever, that transformation in our country is achievable.

We also believe that the pathway to transformation will continue to be paved by people and organizations right here in Brooklyn. Our borough is home to bold, brilliant, innovative leaders of color, whose organizations are fighting for racial justice by reimagining every system in our society. It is up to us to ensure that they succeed.

On Friday, our Board of Directors approved a 7% drawdown from the Foundation’s endowment for our next fiscal year. This is a substantial increase above our sector’s stated “best practice” of 5%, and means that during this volatile time, our nonprofit partners will not lose our support.

But in order to achieve true transformation, we need you.

Thanks to our donors, this year we have already deployed $4.6 million across multiple grantmaking portfolios, including support for 179 nonprofits through our Brooklyn COVID-19 Response Fund.

Yet this moment calls for a mobilization of generosity like never before. Please donate today100% of every dollar raised will go to organizations fighting for justice in Brooklyn.

Thank you for your partnership as we rise to meet the challenge.
