The Brooklyn Donor Advised Fund

“I wanted to give back to Brooklyn, and that's what Brooklyn Community Foundation is all about—they provide a structure and support for you to do that with your Donor Advised Fund.”

- Katrena Perou, Executive Director of Inspiring Minds NYC and Brooklyn Community Foundation DAF holder

As we enter the remaining weeks of 2020, this could be an important time to open a Donor Advised Fund with Brooklyn Community Foundation to maximize your giving to essential nonprofits in 2021 and beyond.

A Donor Advised Fund (DAF) is a charitable giving account that the Foundation manages for you. Creating a DAF is easy and has many advantages:

  • With our convenient Donor Portal, set up takes just 15 minutes
  • You can open a fund with a donation of cash, stock, real estate, and more
  • You'll receive an immediate tax deduction with one receipt

Donating appreciated stock to create a DAF can offset capital gains taxes, allowing you to give even more at a time when nonprofits are struggling to meet unprecedented community needs.

Brooklyn Community Foundation handles all fund administration: you decide when and where to recommend grants from your DAF and we handle the rest. We conduct due diligence, generate the grant letter, and send the check directly to the nonprofit of your choice.

Strengthen Your Impact Today

As a DAF holder, you have the opportunity to create an immediate and lasting source of support for the causes and communities you care about. Last year alone, our Donor Advisors designated nearly $2 million to Brooklyn nonprofits.

Moreover, we actively work with our Donor Advisors to increase giving to Black-led and other people of color-led organizations on the frontlines of the fight for social change.
