Investing in Community with a Donor Advised Fund: Spotlight on Isabel Hill
Donor Advisors are key members of our giving community, and we are proud to partner with them as they leverage their resources in support of organizations in Brooklyn and across the nation. We recently spoke with Isabel Hill to discuss her Donor Advised Fund at Brooklyn Community Foundation, and how her partnership with the Foundation has informed her giving. In our conversation below, Isabel shares what she loves about Brooklyn, her community, and why she chose the Donor Advised Fund as a vehicle for her giving.
Why a Donor Advised Fund at Brooklyn Community Foundation?
I have lived in Brooklyn and worked as an urban planner here for over 30 years. Although I no longer work professionally as a planner, I want to continue to be part of supporting and planning for Brooklyn’s future. I am particularly interested in supporting low-income housing efforts in Brooklyn. The Donor Advised Fund is a great vehicle for staying in touch with the needs and problems of Brooklyn and working to sustain community action.
What do you love about Brooklyn?
I love that Brooklyn is still an amazing assemblage of diverse, small communities. You can take the subway to Bay Ridge, Brighton Beach, Crown Heights, Coney Island, Greenpoint, Borough Park, or Sunset Park and be in a different world—rich with the colors, foods, and sounds of distinct cultures.
What does being part of the Foundation's community mean to you?
Working with Brooklyn Community Foundation has deepened my understanding of some of the long-standing issues in the borough and has expanded my knowledge of the types of organizations that need financial help. It feels so good to be a small part of an organization doing so much good for Brooklyn.
What’s Brooklyn to you in one word?
Home. It is where I have lived for over 30 years, where I raised my daughter, where I have worked, and where I feel truly at home.
