The statement, prepared by Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees, now has well over 100 signatories, ranging from community foundations to international grantmakers to family philanthropies.

Immigrant Rights Panel Draws Hundreds to Brooklyn Museum

More than 500 people came out to the Brooklyn Museum last week in spite of nearly a foot of snow for "Defending Immigrant Rights: A Brooklyn Call to Action," which featured a critical conversation with local leaders working on the frontlines of the fight for immigrant rights.

 
$100,000 for ‘Immediate Response’ Grants to Immigrant Nonprofits

We are pleased to announce nearly $100,000 in grants to support the critical response of 8 local nonprofits to challenges triggered by the Trump Administration’s Executive Order on immigration, deployed through our recently launched Immigrant Rights Fund.

In 2002, I moved to Brooklyn's Flatbush/Midwood neighborhood. As an immigrant and a recent resident of Brooklyn, this neighborhood—with its bustling Pakistani and Bangladeshi businesses and the sounds of Urdu and Bangla from families walking on the streets—felt like home. Being able to have the essential curry leaves and lentils a stone’s throw away from home, was an added bonus.
