Community leaders from all walks of life gathered with us at Weeksville Heritage Center—home to the original Brooklyn changemakers—to commemorate the borough's newest honor.

We're delighted to announce the launch of The Just Brooklyn Prize with The Joe and Clara Tsai Foundation's Social Justice Fund to celebrate five oustanding BIPOC champions in the fight for racial justice in Brooklyn. Nominations are open to the public now through May 15, 2023.

At Brooklyn Community Foundation, we transitioned all our strategic grantmaking—over $4 million annually—to the participatory model in 2021. To help others take on this transition, we are sharing a number of lessons learned—both what we did right and what we wish we knew before starting.

We know Brooklynites are experts on their communities and the issues they face, which is why we are thrilled to invite our neighbors to be part of Brooklyn Community Foundation’s grantmaking advisory councils.

We are proud to announce $2.5M in grants to 55 organizations through our Invest in Youth initiative in 2021, determined for the first time in partnership with our new council of youth advisors.

At Brooklyn Community Foundation, we believe that residents of Brooklyn, those directly affected by the challenges, hold the wisdom, the ideas, and the power to transform them too.
