Brooklyn Org is only one thread in the fabric of social justice work being done across the borough. We’re building bridges between our organization and the individuals who are already enthusiastically investing in Brooklyn, whether it’s government officials, civic leaders, or larger institutions. We believe that this coalition building is key to helping Brooklyn’s nonprofits bring community-led solutions to their full potential and to have a seat at every table.

The Etsy Uplift Fund
We are proud to partner with Etsy, the global marketplace for unique and creative goods that is headquartered right here in Brooklyn.
Etsy established the Uplift Fund as a donor advised fund to expand access to economic opportunity for creative entrepreneurs. Today, the fund’s resources power grants in craft communities across the United States through the Craft Catalyst Initiative—supporting the organizations, nonprofits, and community institutions that give makers the infrastructure, resources, and networks they need to build lasting creative careers.
Etsy buyers in the United States can round up their purchases to the nearest dollar amount at checkout, and the change is donated to the Uplift Fund. These buyer donations, complemented by direct grants from Etsy, are distributed by Brooklyn Org to nonprofit organizations working to strengthen craft communities and the creative entrepreneurs within them.

The Just Brooklyn Prize
Presented in partnership with The Joe and Clara Tsai Foundation’s Social Justice Fund, the Just Brooklyn Prize is a $100,000 annual award to celebrate five outstanding champions in the fight for racial justice in Brooklyn.
Each winner of the Just Brooklyn Prize receives an unrestricted $20,000 grant in recognition of their contributions to the pursuit of racial and social justice in the borough.

National Grid Foundation Partnership: Brooklyn Energy Initiative
In spring 2026, Brooklyn Org announced $700,000 in funding for local communities via the Brooklyn Energy Initiative, a new, multi-year effort in partnership with the National Grid Foundation, aimed at preparing residents for careers in the growing energy sector and helping households manage rising energy costs.
The initiative is providing $50,000 each to 14 Brooklyn-based organizations, with a focus on the Future of Energy Workforce and the Future of Homes. The Future of Energy Workforce funding will prepare young adults and early-career workers for STEM and energy-related careers through technical training, green-skills development, and direct exposure to energy systems. The Future of Homes funding will support residents facing high energy costs with emergency heating assistance, energy efficiency upgrades, and education.

Office of the Attorney General
Brooklyn Org partnered with the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) of New York State to distribute $2.2 million to organizations working to ensure that those who navigate the difficult road of substance abuse and addiction do so with reliable support that honors their agency and dignity.
The OAG designated Brooklyn Org as the recipient and steward of charitable assets that remained from the dissolution of Canarsie A.W.A.R.E., Inc., following its leaders’ conviction for a scheme that exploited some of New York’s most vulnerable residents and defrauded Medicaid. An advisory council of eight Brooklyn residents, who are personally impacted by substance misuse and/or have worked with impacted communities, reviewed grant applications and selected 10 community-based nonprofits to each receive grants of $217,500.

Fishman Family Fund for Economic Opportunity
Funded through donor contributions honoring the service, vision, and leadership of Brooklyn Org Chair Emeritus Alan Fishman, the Fishman Family Fund for Economic Opportunity is designed help close the racial wealth gap in Brooklyn by tackling structural barriers that limit BIPOC Brooklynites’ access to financial and economic stability.
