The Joseph E. Mohbat Fund

The Joseph E. Mohbat Fund awards an annual prize to help talented and deserving Brooklyn students realize their potential in creative writing through education and training. The prize is in memory of Verdery Knights, a young woman of great talent and promise who was mentored by Joe; she was a student and class leader at Benjamin Banneker Academy.

The Fund seeks to marry Joe’s passion for the English language, accuracy in its use and creativity in its content with his love of mentoring aspiring young writers. Your contribution will help create a lasting legacy in Joe’s memory and make it possible for young Brooklynites to develop their skills and realize their potential in creative writing.

The Joseph E. Mohbat Fund has been established as a fund of the Brooklyn Community Foundation. The Brooklyn Community Foundation, the largest philanthropy in Brooklyn, gives donors the power to Do Good Right Here. It is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization, and donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.
