Kings Against Violence Initiative (KAVI) was founded in 2009 by Dr. Robert Gore, an Emergency Room physician who felt compelled to address the rising incidence of violence among youth in Central Brooklyn. KAVI works to prevent and eliminate interpersonal violence from the lives of young people through social justice advocacy, peer leadership, and community mobilization in hospitals, schools, and community settings.

To support innovative educational and farm-based programs that build cultural and agricultural connections within the community through the teaching of Brooklyn’s rich history as a leader in urban farming, with an emphasis on: community, the immigrant experience, supporting family, and understanding the health benefits of sustainable food.

To support an array of health and social services including: behavioral health education; sexual health and wellness; HIV/AIDs Linkage to Care; harm reduction; housing, food, and family wellness; community outreach; advocacy and referral services, and more. Clients primarily have little or no contact with traditional service providers, and include persons who inject drugs, sex workers, and people who are homeless.

To support tenants and immigrant domestic workers in their advocacy for permanent affordable housing, cooperative economics, and domestic worker rights.

To create a centralized free online source of validated, accurate, culturally competent, and up-to-date information and resources on COVID-19 for a network of 70 CBOs focused on addressing the social determinants of health.
