Brooklyn Stables Provide Therapy for Children
On Sunday, June 20, Brooklyn Community Foundation participated in the Ride with Pride Horse Show in Prospect Park. The event is run by GallopNYC, an innovative therapeutic horseback riding program designed for physically and developmentally children and teens. After a brief parade in the park, the riders—GallopNYC participants—astride toy horses they created that morning, were presented blue ribbons by "honorary judges," including Foundation’s Senior Program Officer, Stuart Post and City Councilmember Brad Lander.
Recently recognized as New Yorker of the week, GallopNYC operates out of Brooklyn's Kensington Stables. Under the direction of a riding instructor and with the guidance of an experienced physical therapist, GALLOP clients learn to sit on their horses properly, use their reins to command the horse, and ride at a walk and trot. Brooklyn Community Foundation proudly supports GallopNYC as part of its Caring Neighbors Fund.
